Burnt Rice
Sekinchan’s vast rice fields produce one of the highest yields in Malaysia. Most rice fields are photographed when they are lush green. Or a ripened golden. Thus far, I’ve not seen anyone photograph the fields when they’ve have been harvested and burnt. Nothing to photograph, they might say.

So I took different view. Suddenly the tall paddy no longer obscures, irrigation ditches sparkle in the sun and the rows become fields of textures.

For the longest time, I’ve wanted to shoot this. To document an integral part of Malaysia’s heart. The fields that feed us. Land and food are as primeval as it gets.
